meant to be

For those of you who read my sick bed post you will know about my love of crochet blankets. Since that post I have felt better. So decided on quick crochet project . Picked a pattern went to blog and my eyes would served to sacrilegious granny square blanket. Best of all it was crochet a long. Every week for eight month you make three squares. Sounds easy enough so deciding it was fate I set to work.

The squares are meant to be eight inches my tension is off so slightly bigger. You use a 5mm hook with any double knit so great stash buster

Here are my first few squares

I love the  they are joined with a granny stripe  No unsightly sewing . The seem is almost invisible.

I willingness here and now I will not be making every square as the finished one way to big for my humble double bed.  And I may five up before then lol but at very least I will gave my very own crochet blanket  for next time I am.sick.

a good night sleep

Something I have been missing while ill is a good night's sleep. My youngest son was complaining early mornings disturbing his sleep so he set himself a project a sleeping mask

I just had to share this with you. He leArnt to spike stitch and used this to design himself a mask
This is the result .

All his own work  very proud mummy moment ....maybe he can make me one

sick bed

I have been quiet this week as I have a tooth infection . My mouth is throbbing and even thought of picking up hook is to much effort.

What it has done it make me think of when I as a child. Mum would  make a bed up on sofa with a bottle of lucozade and her knitted patch work blanket. It bought me such comfort . I finding myself wishing I had crocheted on to snuggle under.

These are kind of images I have in mind bright and simple . Something so soothing about the granny square maybe it's the name granny

Mind does not look  like this
This was my start of blanket it never grew past this . I had only just learnt to crochet the tension is all working and frankly it looked messy.  I couldn't face finishing it knowing I wasn't happy and couldn't frog it so now it lays in box abandoned. Think I need a blanket before sick season starts  so next time I take to sick bed I can do so under grannies care.

how to magic loop

Thought I would share how I magic loop . There are loads of tutorials out there. Some are just baffling. My method is super simple and hopefully will help some one out there in blog land.

Start making a back wards j
Take the tail  behind so you create a loop

Take the hook under the loop with tail over the hook

Now do a simple slip stitch

That's is the loop is created  you can now add in however many stitches you need the you can pull it closed  No hole

just a quicky

I was going to wait to show you this but I really pleased with it
Socks In my house are valuable commodity . It doesn't matter what they look like  my boys will steal them . Hence the  bright yellow I chose .  I saw this pattern for slouchy flight socks and thought I would give it a go

You crochet it in one piece the only sewing is the flaps on the heel . It makes up quite quickly just a matter of hours not only did I enjoy making it but when I tried it on was amazed they so comfy

So where is the sock now ? Well on my youngest sons foot lol  . He claimed  it straight of the hook . I have been met with cries of I want o ne from other son's  so  I best get hooking.

time for something new

My new magazine came yesterday and one thing caught my eye Tunisian crochet. There was a how to section and some Sun glasses case . So I set to work

Me and sunglasses case ha e a long crochet history it was about this time last year I first picked up hook and I did make a rather pathetic Sun glasses case which I was insanely proud off . However after thinking I had cracked crochet I was unable to make anything else.

I don't have any long Tunisian. Hooks so I used my normal trusty 4mm hook and or a raised a swatch peice. I was pleased it seemed easy and set to work

Here is the result of side one
It's not to bad  but by second side was much neater as I got into the swing of it

It makes a nice dense fabric  . I will definitely be buying a set of nice long hooks  if you fancy a go why not get copy of  @simply crochet  set your self a challenge bet you will be glad you did

the bag that almost never was

After I finished hat I wondered what next . I looked through a few blogs I like to read and a bag caught my eye.. it was made up of solid granny squares. Then I had a brain wave I had loads in my work bag  so I did count up I needed 26  I had twenty.

Now they were meant to be cushion but like many I made a number of squares and lost will to live . They been in bag ever since.so I made up the missing six squares  and set to work. constructing  the bag was a pain it joined with what my friend calls waffle stitch  . But once you got hang of it it some enough . Then I added a treble border  to top of bag and some string handles and it was done

As you can see handles to flimsy so add three rows of dc

 Looks much better doesn't it
This is bag from.the other side . I really like it and it certainly better  than a pile of UN loved granny squares in bag

If you fancy having a go at your own bag the pattern can be found at winks blog

hats off

It has been so hot here . Which for England is virtually unheard off . Took dog for walk around canel which was lovely and saw great wildlife.but it didn't take long to get headache from.the Sun's rays.

With this is mind I decided to make a hat. I searched ravelry and found a pattern for a floppy brimmed hat. The pattern was easy although whether it was headache or not it didn't seem.to be as clear as I would have liked which isn't a problem.as once pattern established you don't need it.. it grow quickly as although it double knit its done on 5.5  hook
.

So do you want to see it?  ... ok I am ready for my.close up

Lol  below is a better picture of the hat

I added the flower from my friend who designed  the flower as part of garland . I think it adds to the hat overall. The pattern is so basic that you can really let  your mind run riot. I am already thinking of Easter bonnet, but that a project for another day.  For now I am.off to enjoy this sunshine safe in knowledge I will be headache free.

yarn basket

I was worried by this project right up untill last few rounds it refused to sit right so just before handles . I threw pattern away and went free  style

I abandoned the spike stitch that had been slowing me up and began decreasing I thought about ten would do but think I took away at least forty in end lol. It had desired  effect and start to sit more like a basket

I ran out of wool two rounds from.the end so decided to leave it as it means a have whole ball left for another project  but even with these issues it's done a and perfection not needed when it just to hold yarn so am happy with it  so of course is my dog who seems to think it's her new bed lol

all things bright and beautiful

Last post I moaned about lack of colour well the crochet gods must have been listening went into hobby craft and they had a sale on !!!!!

So picked up these lovely beauties
Wasn't sure what to do with them  so searched ravelry  and finally decided on a new craft bag with the brighter wool and found a waist coat with the lilac although it needs a monster hook 15mm so need a visit to Amazon before that happens

Made a start on bag and expected it to  grow quickly  as it super chunky but it actually quite hard to work with mainly due to using a smaller than recommended  hook.because it needs to be stiff.  I really like the colour reminds me of sniffles or a married . Neither of which are helping diet lol even the wool.co.pant seems against me as it robins candy floss  wool. No escaping the food theme is there

The wool is and fun  and cheerful  and today murky and dark so will crack.on with it  happy hooking people x

all quiet on the crochet front

I have to confess for the last couple of days  I have not even picked up a hook . Mainly it's because it's that time again where kids finishing up for school year endless trip and plays and special.assembly  the only light at end of tunnel is the thought of a long summer free to.hook to my hearts delight

Tonight I have a headache and hooking and headaches don't mix but even with that I still managed to do two ears  two tusks and a tail and am only four feet away from a ta-day

It's a elephant for my.middle son who completed his green belt grading at karate. He adores elephants and its green although his colour of choice would be orange lol any sY hopefully not to long till I can share it with you. I know his endless moaning of is it nearly done won't be missed it was probably cause of headache lol

up up and away

Was really pleased how quick this has worked up

To make this I have borrowed from various sources. The general idea comes from.Lucy's happy flower .  The sun  from. Bunny mummy  blog and the cloud came from.a motif in simy crochet.  The star of the show is the hot air balloon which was ally designed by o e of my.closest friends . The pattern can be found on ravelry

Blog land myself I included having a bit of Mandala mania  but I love that this one can have a practical use as my house if getting covered by these no surface is safe lol.

I think all together it works really well . I plan to give this to my nephew to put in his nursery I think it will brighten up any room.

crochet chick

Since finishing my wreath I lost my crojo all motivation gone . Decided I needed something fun and quick so trawled ravelry  and found  this
It's actually meant to be a chicken .  I must have done something wrong as it looks more like a penguin. Then my son who is was destined for pointed out it a bit like Perry the platypus .  Whatever it is its very cute and cured me of my motivational slump.

Only problem.now is what to do next lol

postal treats

It is like summer to finally here  Not much hooking has been going on    but two thing arrived in post today that cheered me up one was this lovely set of hooks . I know some people like the fancy padded hooks but for me I love aluminium . These are ideal the were less than four pounds and come in handy case so hopefully no more hooks lost to sofa.

The next thing to arrive was even more exciting . I entered my Hippocrates in a competition drawn monthly and it won the prize was this voucher for twenty pounds to spend in store
Not sure if any of you have ever been a abakhan but it's a crafters dream with craft barns covering many different crafts . There even a cafe and at area for kids so you can make a real.day of it . Think I will save this for my birthday next month th and get myself a treat

wreath ta da

So here  it is my attempt at May day wreath.  After the wreaths arrived from.amazon I found motivation to continue with the strippy cover. Then should have come the fun bit  putting it all together.  I pinned it first  for placement and Lucy had even suggested leaving it simply pinned .  But in my case  any time the wreath moved  something pinged off. At this point I resigned  myself to lists of sewing.

Then I seemed to have to many elements even though I used the same size wreath and started thinking the whole project a waste of time.

So today I looked at it again  . And this is the result  actually I am pleased with results. Hope my.mum.like it

guess who

I decided to try out my new book
But who should I make  ? The book is unusual as you pick body type to create your doll the only limit is you imagination.

So after flicking through I made a decision  and here is  his face

Bit hard to tell so  here is a bit more of a clue
Hmmmm a red bow tie and a fez  could be no other .  The an a certain Dr. Have to say he's right bow ties are cool

. hopefully it will eventually look a bit like this . This picture I googled I think it's by Alison Hoffman who wrote the above book.

Well I can but dream.  Dr  who and crochet for me have a long history . The reason I was desperate to crochet is a friend who introduced me to crochet being more than a square . Since then she has spoils me with these beauties
 I aren't they lovely ??  I hope I can
return the favour one day  giving her a Dr of her own but untill then this one is mine lol

may in review

I started this blog as almost a scrap book . . I have now been crocheting seven months and sometimes I make something and surprise myself that I am.able to do it . I guess it shows how easy crochet is once you have the basics.

I was looking back through May was surprised at how much I had achieved. I finished my hippo
Was naughty and completed my rain bow cushion  two months before my birthday lol
Joined in the mandala mania for yarn dale
Had a go at designing  a  tea cosy

Tried my hand at making  clothing

Of course I couldn't go a whole month without a bit of fun
Started a May flower wreaths. Really must crack on with it lol
And finished the month with a cute fairy
Wow all in all a busy month ..... I wonder what  next month will hold
