when hobbies collide

I have been quiet this week but I have not been Idle

I have discovered a old passion . I love entering completions and online there are hundreds . In past I have been quite lucky but sadly not won anything yet.

One competion I have won before . Was crochet project of the month my.Hippo  won.

This month there is a twist it has to be knitted or crochet but with Xmas theme

I expect we will see Santa and tree decorations  maybe even a few of Lucy's Xmas bird
So what could I do  that was different?

A look on ravelry  showed me  this  little Angel .......

It seems perfect . If you look up the pattern  you will see the original has two Angel and my base had no room.lol but I really like it . The only problem.is the talented designer has so many patterns I loved my ever growing list is out of control . Any way back to my Halloween project  so wish me luck

yearning for yarndale

Last year I couldn't crochet . My closest friend excitedly went to yarndale and I wished  I could have gone.

This year I cam crochet and we made plans to go but family issues and redundancy and lack of cash in general  meant neither of us could go

The I Gerber full off picture of the bunting , yarn bombing  not to mention the mandala and I feel disappointed  so to cheer myself I decided to make a mandala . Well not true really it's a vintage vase coaster  but it's basically sane thing lol.

It's actually something I made before here is my original

And here is today's effort

Love these colours and remind me of lucy choices . It cheered me up and broke my gloom.at missing out I hope it does the same to any of you also not lucky enough to go . Who knows I may see you next year

a celebration bird

This is my 100th post I don't think I have ever kept at a diary so long and certainly not a blog but I did wonder what I should do as my post . I am also getting to the anniversary of first learning to crochet so I wanted it to be something good I attempted some very tricky most but messed them up and the result  was not picking up my hook

So then today my new copy of simply crochet came . It's a bumper issue ready for Xmas . How could I not find something I wanted to make. And what really stood out is the free attic 24 kit to make a board bird

It seemed fitting Lucy work opened my eyes to what was possible Crochet . I really thought it was all granny squares and bunting untill then.  So I set to work a three hours later here it is

Forgive the photo . It's really hard to get it right but it is actually really cute. The pattern was in a book of various decoration . I love the early and the colour so think I will make a few for my tree.

So that's it the my 100th post thanks for reading . I hope you enjoy reading it here's to the next 100!!

chunky love

I wasn't idle on my holiday. I took my attic 24 chunky pack. The plan was to make the jolly chunky bag.  I didn't finish it in my time away but have finished today and here it is

Those  of you who love Lucy will be able to see some obvious differences between mine and hers .  Firstly mine in narrower . This is simply as I got carried away chatting and forgot to do the increases lol

The other difference is less noticeable in a picture but is the tension . Mine is looser. This was because I planned to use my new pro wave hook and used the wrong size lol. The hook I had was the pink 5.5  . I love pink and let my enthusiasm get away from.me lol

Even with these might or differences I do like the bag and its very jolly indeed !!!

up up and away

Was really pleased how quick this has worked up

To make this I have borrowed from various sources. The general idea comes from.Lucy's happy flower .  The sun  from. Bunny mummy  blog and the cloud came from.a motif in simy crochet.  The star of the show is the hot air balloon which was ally designed by o e of my.closest friends . The pattern can be found on ravelry

Blog land myself I included having a bit of Mandala mania  but I love that this one can have a practical use as my house if getting covered by these no surface is safe lol.

I think all together it works really well . I plan to give this to my nephew to put in his nursery I think it will brighten up any room.

wreath ta da

So here  it is my attempt at May day wreath.  After the wreaths arrived from.amazon I found motivation to continue with the strippy cover. Then should have come the fun bit  putting it all together.  I pinned it first  for placement and Lucy had even suggested leaving it simply pinned .  But in my case  any time the wreath moved  something pinged off. At this point I resigned  myself to lists of sewing.

Then I seemed to have to many elements even though I used the same size wreath and started thinking the whole project a waste of time.

So today I looked at it again  . And this is the result  actually I am pleased with results. Hope my.mum.like it

i never promised you a rose garden.......

Ok  so maybe I did ....... and here it is

This is the roses  grouped into sizes we have two large roses nine smaller roses four tiny flowers and six micro flowers. Full detail can be found on Lucy blog at attic 24 if you fancy a garden of your own.

I couldn't wait  to see how they went together so I  had a play I like the muted colours  it gives  a very different feel to Lucy . I really enjoyed making these and embellishing  the flowers with beads . The photo doesn't  show how pretty  it looks when it catches light

The flowers are lacking it's greenery  and although it's headed I am not looking forward to endless green . Any one in blog land want to hook some for me .... No didn't think so .Oh well that's a job for tomorrow.

a rose by any other name

My mum has been staying with me over the bank holiday . I hardly see her so it made a nice if not sometimes challenging time lol. My crochet been neglected as I played hostess but back to it today but what to make ?

I wAnt to make her a present to take down later in year but what to make. I looked at shawls but nothing grabbed me . I finally decided on Lucy's  Mary rose wreath .
The picture shows the large rose done in chunky . The normal.rose and the micro rose ( which are my favourite.)  The only thing I have changed is I have put a shiny bead in centre of flower to give wreath some bling lol .i have loved how quickly they fly off hook.
This is not my first wreath . Again this is from Lucy pattern I. February simply crochet. But it's my first proper wreath   and so far I am loving it . The roses are quick and simple and easy to complete in front of telly lol .My friend has already made this wreath and given me some tips in construction so do get a crossed it will  look as good as I hope.

cushion ta dah !!!

So it's finished. I am really pleased with results . I enjoyed learning the rain bow stitch and think it quite effective. I love the colours and really glad I bought the pack from wool ware house  I have constructed mine different to Lucy's but am sure she wouldn't mind . Secretly I had to rectify  a mistake I made look. This is my first cushion but feel it won't be my last . It already brightens up the room

somewhere over the rainbow

My hippopotamus is on hold due to stuffing shortage. My husband bought me Lucy's  latest pack from wool ware house . it came today and I couldn't wait to start . It grows so quickly and the stripes are quite addictive. The wool is chunky style craft I have never used it before and have to confess I love it.. Not only is it in georgous colours but it lovely and squishy perfect for cushion making.

Lucy calls the stitch rainbow stitch I don't know if that her name or correct term but it basically two rows repeated now and easy half trebled perfect as I settle with my box set.the above is the result of hours work and think i may finish over the bank holiday weekend . I can't leave it alone. So off I go back to it . Happy hooking

birds of a feather

I find  real life birds worrying . This stems from.a holiday in Venice and st Mark.square being covered with pigeons and my mum.thinking it a good idea  to feed them. Actually maybe it really stems  from my mum  ( can you see a theme developing) run Bing over a pheasant getting out car slinging it in boot only for it to come alive and run around car and my grandad breaking his neck .  Lol these two incidents may seam.harmless enough but add that to my other grandfather shutting me in coop to collect eggs and my son dinosaur program suggesting some evolved into birds I think these creature very untrustworthy.

Despite this I do love making them the top one is from Lucy website  the one below taken from.bunny mummy who based her initial design.on Lucy . I took elements of both to create the one below and pleased with the result . I read a comment on a blog saying  there no such thing as something completely original in crochet  and these birds prove it at first glance you can see Lucy influence the main difference is  in the granny circle and size of bird  but what I love about crochet is freedom to evolve a pattern . I will just try not to think.  About what birds evolved into when it comes to these guys lol
Lol sorry some how this birdie flew away so added it on told you they tricky creatures

relight my fire

I never thought I would feel  crochet a chore but after doing nothing but bits for my.sons project felt fed up with whole thing. This weekend I wanted to ignite my love for crochet again  .the new magazine was due to arrive I waited all morning postman came the letter box rattled but no no magazine.

At a loss for what to do I explored Lucy blog and found these .ok strictly speaking it's a Xmas decoration . A star to hang on Xmas tree but it's so pretty I couldn't so no and I had beads begging to be used. In fact I think I might make a set as Xmas presents . Anyway what ever I use it for its reignited my hooky love again

upcycle

My son project is going well .he made over twenty and we still going strong . The hearts I thought would fly but sold two eventually but my son knew I liked this one and kept it for me for mothers day lol.  I do like it but a random heart just hanging looked a bit twee my friend who showed me pattern originally  made small flowers and heart to hers so I decided to have a go. I spent ages looking for a flower and settled on Lucy's triple layer flower  which I think adds nice touch . Then use her design for a heart to finish it off I really like it and how it evolved  now I need to find it a home. At moment it's in my hall but it's two pretty to be out of sight.

i love lucy

I had heard of Lucy at attic 24 before I had made my first  foundation chain. My friend introduced me to Lucy work  after she had competed a beautiful wreath. I set off for a journey into blog land and spent literally hours trawling her  blog and with a determination to learn crochet. Before I set up this blog I read others and was shocked by how often Lucy name mentioned   and a quick Google shows how many people have been inspired  by Lucy work.  These two picture are my attempts at recreating  Lucy work .I especially love the wreath which  was featured in February simply  crochet mag and the little bird is simply  adorable and very quick to make  My ultimate aim is to do a proper wreath but then something else seems to take my eye, still never say never
